In Fall 0f 1976, the Mendocino Art Center launched its Textile Apprenticeship Program, an intensive immersion in the art, craft, and business of textiles. The program thrived until 1991. To observe the 40th Anniversary of the Program’s beginning, the work of 20 former apprentices (rugs, tapestries, wearable art, & more) will be shown concurrently in Pacific Textile Arts’ and Mendocino Art Center’s Galleries during the month of November. Pavlos Mayakis, 2016 Arts Champion in the Education category, is an instructor at Mendocino College in Fort Bragg, coordinator of the Fiber Arts programs at the Mendocino Art Center, and a board member of Pacific Textile Arts. Besides selling his own art, Pavlos teaches classes in surface design at the college and in special textile techniques at the Mendocino Art Center. He is continually promoting education in art, textiles, and mixed media, led a committee to select a new logo for Pacific Textile Arts, continues to take classes himself, and brings renowned artists as guest teachers in his classes. Best of all, he thoroughly enjoys his many artistic endeavors and extends his enthusiasm to

Lisa Grey, of NH, will speak on the topic: PAINT, PRINT, STAMP!: Old Dogs, New Tricks. She has been a full time studio artist for 37 years.  She has led workshops in multiple dyeing, printmaking, and creative sewing techniques in the US and abroad and is known for her innovative discoveries in the use of disperse dyes.  Her teaching approach focuses on combining technical proficiency with creative spontaneity and includes a hefty dose of play.
