2pm – We’ll have our permanent African Textile Collection out to look at, touch and feel and enjoy. Bring your own pieces and we’ll have an afternoon of study and discussion.
During her many years living and working in Africa Anne Fleuret collected textiles including machine made cotton khangas and kikois from Kenya and Tanzania, some celebrating causes or institutions, others featuring Swahili proverbs and hand woven along with hand-dyed pieces from Nigeria, Liberia and Senegal. She also worked with local womens’ groups for many years helping them market the baskets and maintain the quality. Most of the baskets are from the Taita Hills of Kenya.
The show will include pieces from our Textile Study Collection as well as pieces for sale.
