Class Description:
Bold, graphic line, zigzag stripes and scalloped selvedges are striking characteristics of wedge weave. Instead of weaving perpendicular to the warp, as is usual for tapestry, wedge weave is an eccentric weaving technique where the wefts are woven at an angle to the warp.

In this workshop, students will learn the unique characteristics, basic techniques, and design possibilities to create dynamic and graphic wedge weave tapestries. The workshop includes a variety of approaches to eccentric weaving, combining tapestry with wedge weave, slit techniques, curves, and unusual materials. Create a sampler or small tapestry by incorporating various wedge weave techniques and styles and move beyond the expected.  Students should be able to warp a loom and have some weaving experience.

List of items students need to bring
1. Students may work on floor looms (provided by PTA) or bring their own small tapestry looms.
2. Looms should be pre-warped with either a 12/9 or 12/6 cotton seine twine sett at 6 or 8 epi. (For floor looms make a 2 yard warp about 10″ – 15″ wide. Tapestry or frame looms should be warped according to loom.
3. Bring wool yarns for weft in a variety of contrasting colors and values. Keep the weft yarns a similar type. I recommend Swedish Matt yarn, Paternayan yarns, handspun and mill ends. The yarns should be smooth, not textured or soft like knitting yarns.
4. Bring the usual tapestry supplies: tapestry beater or heavy fork, scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle, tapestry bobbins (if you use them). I simply use hand wound butterflies.

BIO

A lifelong weaver, textile designer, teacher, and curator, Deborah Corsini, is known for her dynamic wedge weave tapestries. Her work is exhibited in national and international venues and her tapestries are in U.S. Embassies, museums, corporate and private collections. Deborah maintains a studio practice in Pacifica, CA and continues her fascination and experimentation with wedge weave.

TUITION: $400/Members $420/Non-Members.
Tuitions include a 20% non-refundable deposit up to a maximum of $50.

PAYMENT OPTION:
50% now, $200 members/$210 non-members, with balance due by May 31, 2024.

CLASS POLICIES:

Your tuition, or balance if you are making payments, is due 15 days before the first day of class. At this point we have committed to paying the teacher whether you attend or not. Tuition is subject to the cancellation policies below and includes non-refundable deposit of 20% of the class fee up to a maximum of $50 to hold your space in the class.

If the minimum number of students is not met, or for any reason Pacific Textile Arts or the teacher must cancel the class, your tuition including deposits will be refunded or you may credit them toward a future class.

CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS & CREDIT TERMS:

Full refund terms: If you cancel more than 30 days before the start of class you may receive a full refund minus the non-refundable, non-exchangeable deposit, or you may request a credit minus the non-refundable deposit toward a future class within 1 year.

Credit toward a future class: If you cancel between 30 days and two weeks before the start of class you may request a credit toward a future class minus the non-refundable deposit.

If you cancel within two weeks of the start of class, including if you have an illness or emergency, tuitions are non-refundable unless the minimum number of students can be met without your presence OR you are able to find a replacement for your space. Only then may you request a credit toward a future class minus the non-refundable deposit. 

No Shows – No refunds or credits will be given.

These policies have been revised in an effort to ensure, as an all-volunteer organization, that we provide a full roster of classes, offer reasonable tuitions, and guarantee our teachers will receive full payment for their work. By signing up for this class, you are agreeing to the above policies.
