Free to Pacific Textile Arts Members.  All welcome, donations appreciated INTRODUCING SHANNON WEBER & HER WORK WITH UNCOMMON MATERIALS Shannon Weber from Oregon will be the Guest Artist in Residence at the Mendocino Art Center March 14 - April 30, 2016 and will be holding a 3 day Fiber Mixed Media Sculpture and En-Caustic workshop at the Mendocino Art Center  April 8-10 2016.                                                                    Shannon has been a working full time studio artist and designer for 30 + years and is known for her use of mixing uncommon materials with several layers of weaving, stitching, and cold connections. She has been featured in Fine Arts publications such as  Surface

Jason is giving a workshop March 26-29 on 4-end Blockweave Structures. FREE TALK SAT MARCH 26th at PTArts GUILD MEETING 11am – noon 4-end blockweave (taquete), is an extremely versatile structure for rug weaving. Offering many of the design possibilities that are achievable in 3-end blockweave,  it is none the less visually very different. The threading allows for plain weave and this means we can explore summer and winter in this class, opening up a whole new range of design options.

 "CROSSING THE LINE" The theme of our collaborative show with North Coast Artists, Partners, and Edgewater Galleries. Members of each gallery will explore the concept of "line" in their chosen medium. The fiber arts expression will feature the work of local weavers and tapestry artists. Lolli Jacobsen will begin her fascinating textile history survey, exploring techniques, fibers and geographical areas on Saturday January 9th, with a free introductory class. The class will continue through April 9, every Saturday from 1:30-4:30.  Tuition for the series is $300; individual sessions, $40.  Bookbinding class will be taught by Judy Detrick, January 18-22, 2016.   Gallery Exhibit in January will present a preview of this fascinating art form. This exhibition is a selection of practice sheets and finished calligraphic works by the participants in the weekly Calligraphy Study Group led by Judy Detrick The Calligraphy Study Group meets each Thursday afternoon at Pacific Textile Arts and welcomes individuals interested in this art form. Art in the Redwoods Sponsored each August at the Gualala Arts Center The heart of the festival is the Exhibit of Fine Art. Award-winning artwork is selected by the Fine Art Exhibit judges.  For those unable to attend the festival, the works remain on display through the end of August. This lovely collapse weave in silk, cotton and wool shawl woven by our own Janice Sullivan won third prize in the weaving category and sold to some lucky patron.

Karen has held several 6 week classes for the younger crowd.  This is an ongoing outreach.  This summer it was held in the morning, but when school is in session, it is held after school one day a week.   The last session ended July 22nd.  Here is the group with their weavings.  "They were a delightful crew, aged 7-10, and they all enjoyed weaving.  3 were repeat students, and 3 were new." Guest House Weavers and friends, Just wanted to share with you that the museum loom has been moved to a larger room across the hall from the former loom room. Folks coming up the stairs see the loom right away, the room has an ocean and train view, and 3 windows so lots of light. A new warp will be installed in the next few days, so more lovely rugs can be made and more visitors can enjoy seeing a real loom in action. Along with the gallery show which opens tonight at 5:oo pm, there is an IKAT class July 10-12th with Janice Sullivan. Image is her work. Ikat, or Ikkat, is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dyeing process on the warp fibers, the weft fibers, or in the rare and costly 'double ikat' both warp and weft, prior to dyeing and weaving. In ikat, the resist is formed by binding bundles of threads with a tight wrapping applied in the desired pattern. The threads are then dyed. The bindings may then be altered and the thread

Larochette Book, The Tree of Lives Presentation was a huge success. Jackie traveled on the road with Jean Pierre and Yael in their two small motor homes from Fort Bragg to Moscow, Idaho. The book about their lives together was received with huge enthusiasm at all the venues.
