Arianne's talk focused on indigenous weaving practices as well as innovations and revivals in textile production in Oaxaca. She drew from her own personal experience working and collaborating with weavers in rural communities in Southern Mexico since 2008; to highlight some of the most important issues regarding the value of handwoven textiles in the region. She was primarily focusing her talk on textiles woven from native, homegrown cotton varieties which are naturally colored and those woven from yarn or thread dyed with locally sourced plants and insects. Mari Yamaguchi's  Japanese Textiles  Saturday Program Series  3-24-18  FIELD TRIP We will meet Saturday, March 24 at 10:00 AM in the classroom at Pacific Textile Arts for social and sharing.  By 10:45 we will be carpooling to the studio of Mari Yamaguchi, who will share her extensive collection of Japanese textiles and the cellulose fibers traditionally used in Japan.  Mari is a local member of PTArts, and has an exhibit in Gallery this month with a sampling of her fascinating collection. In Fall 0f 1976, the Mendocino Art Center launched its Textile Apprenticeship Program, an intensive immersion in the art, craft, and business of textiles. The program thrived until 1991. To observe the 40th Anniversary of the Program’s beginning, the work of 20 former apprentices (rugs, tapestries, wearable art, & more) will be shown concurrently in Pacific Textile Arts’ and Mendocino Art Center’s Galleries during the month of November. Jason is giving a workshop March 26-29 on 4-end Blockweave Structures. FREE TALK SAT MARCH 26th at PTArts GUILD MEETING 11am – noon 4-end blockweave (taquete), is an extremely versatile structure for rug weaving. Offering many of the design possibilities that are achievable in 3-end blockweave,  it is none the less visually very different. The threading allows for plain weave and this means we can explore summer and winter in this class, opening up a whole new range of design options.
