Robin will discuss her experience developing and managing Meridian Jacobs and her favored breed, Jacob sheep, with plenty of time to ask questions. Lisa Grey, of NH, will speak on the topic: PAINT, PRINT, STAMP!: Old Dogs, New Tricks. She has been a full time studio artist for 37 years.  She has led workshops in multiple dyeing, printmaking, and creative sewing techniques in the US and abroad and is known for her innovative discoveries in the use of disperse dyes.  Her teaching approach focuses on combining technical proficiency with creative spontaneity and includes a hefty dose of play. Elk studio tour around 2:30 PM Carolyn has shown her handwoven and felt pieced rug work locally and nationally.  She has worked from her production studio, Carleton Designs, for the past 36 years. She is currently exploring floor-covering ideas in merino wool felt.For Carolyn, "Rugs are a canvas inviting exploration of design within the parameters of function. Art in the Redwoods Sponsored each August at the Gualala Arts Center The heart of the festival is the Exhibit of Fine Art. Award-winning artwork is selected by the Fine Art Exhibit judges.  For those unable to attend the festival, the works remain on display through the end of August. This lovely collapse weave in silk, cotton and wool shawl woven by our own Janice Sullivan won third prize in the weaving category and sold to some lucky patron.

Karen has held several 6 week classes for the younger crowd.  This is an ongoing outreach.  This summer it was held in the morning, but when school is in session, it is held after school one day a week.   The last session ended July 22nd.  Here is the group with their weavings.  "They were a delightful crew, aged 7-10, and they all enjoyed weaving.  3 were repeat students, and 3 were new." Guest House Weavers and friends, Just wanted to share with you that the museum loom has been moved to a larger room across the hall from the former loom room. Folks coming up the stairs see the loom right away, the room has an ocean and train view, and 3 windows so lots of light. A new warp will be installed in the next few days, so more lovely rugs can be made and more visitors can enjoy seeing a real loom in action. Along with the gallery show which opens tonight at 5:oo pm, there is an IKAT class July 10-12th with Janice Sullivan. Image is her work. Ikat, or Ikkat, is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dyeing process on the warp fibers, the weft fibers, or in the rare and costly 'double ikat' both warp and weft, prior to dyeing and weaving. Larochette Book, The Tree of Lives Presentation was a huge success. Jackie traveled on the road with Jean Pierre and Yael in their two small motor homes from Fort Bragg to Moscow, Idaho. The book about their lives together was received with huge enthusiasm at all the venues.
