Leanna Lytle is Tiny Blue Studio’s Botanist-turned-natural dyer.
A lifetime interest in textiles, gardening, and plants laid foundation for the natural marriage of these passions via plant-based dyeing.
Leanna Lytle grew up in rural Wyoming surrounded by plants and gardening. As a child she was taught to sew and would craft garments for her dolls. Her interest in textiles, gardening, and plants laid foundation for the natural marriage of these passions via plant-based dyeing. Indigo being her first love of the art, she studied it exclusively for about five years after getting a Botany degree from San Francisco State University. The intricacies of the process drew her in, every type of vat a new adventure, and the science of it all has kept her interest. Now, she grows and extracts as much of her own indigo pigment as possible on her property and sees her studies with plant-dyeing as a life-long venture and lifestyle.
