Class Description: Explore Twill or Plain weave . Exploration will include designing a small sample, using the Fibonacci number system for good proportions, and playing with color ideas. My rugs are woven with card-woven selvedges and they are hemmed. Learning those techniques will be part of the class.
List of items students need to bring: Pen and pencil; ruler; sharp scissors; a temple if you have one that will work for a 14″ to 18″ sample. I will provide a notebook with handouts; equipment to accommodate card-woven selvedge weaving; as many temples as I can round up for those who don’t have one.
BIO: I have been weaving weft-faced area rugs since about 1991. Martha Stanley and Jason Collingwood have been the most influential rug weaving instructors I studied under. In 1996, I started teaching weaving classes at the Ink People Center for the Arts weaving studio in Eureka, California on a regular basis.
In 1997 I spent a month being a textile artist in residence at the Mendocino Art Center. I show and sell my rugs through national juried fine art and craft shows.
