Join Carrie Vidal & Vanessa Staples for series of five FREE workshops designed for beginners with no previous experience in textiles, where individuals and families can explore their creativity and experiment with new mediums in a safe and supportive environment. These workshops will be held from September through December and are made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation of Mendocino County.
These classes are designed for BEGINNERS in the textile arts. Most of the spaces for experienced fiber artists are filled and we are now giving priority to absolute beginners and parents with children. Each workshop will be limited to 20 participants.
If you are an experienced fiber artist and would like to be added to our waitlist please fill out the form and choose the option that states you have previous experience and we will notify you if spaces are open as we get closer to the class

Fall is a time when many cultures celebrate ancestors and departed loved ones, and magic is in the air. Altars have long been used as a way to honor special people in our lives. Similarly, talismans have been part of every tradition to keep magic, health, or special inspiration close. They are believed to provide hope and encouragement through difficult times, or bring good luck. In this workshop you will learn how to make your own pocket-sized altar or talisman incorporating pictures of a loved one, a favorite sacred spirit, or images that simply calm or inspire you. We will learn basic embroidery stitches to embellish our work. Each participant will leave with their own basic sewing kit so they can continue their work at home. Participants are encouraged to bring mementos such as pictures and other small, meaningful items to personalize their altar.
Register online or show up at the door. Your space is guaranteed if you register online.

Do you have a favorite shirt or pair of jeans that need mending or strengthening? In this hands-on textile workshop, we will explore several techniques for giving new life to your favorite garments and household textiles. Mending can be a creative and meditative practice. Slow stitching gives us a chance to relax, quiet our minds, and connect with our clothes in a different way. We treat them less as disposable items and more like something to be cared for, reflecting the journey they’ve traveled with us. Each participant will leave with their own basic sewing kit so they can continue their work at home. Bring an item or two of clothing to mend, or practice on fabric we provide.
