Local artist Bob Rhoades will present a talk on his extensive art practice and paper making experiences here on the Mendocino Coast over the last 30 years.
Bob will present a brief history of hand papermaking which began in China then spread to Korea and Japan, eventually to the Middle East then to Europe in the 13th century. The next section of his talk will describe how the class will process local fibers such as nasturtium vines, rice straw, bamboo, and kozo bark into pulp. We will be using the European method with cooked, beaten or blended pulp to form sheets. The last section he will present some of the many art forms he produces using pulp and handmade paper as my principle material.
The talk begins promptly at 10am followed by his class. The class is full but you may sign up for the waitlist by emailing classes@pacifictextilearts.org
